ECECD Scholarship in New Mexico for Childcare Professionals

The ECECD scholarship is called the Comprehensive Early Childhood Scholarship Program, and it is organized by the Early Childhood Education and Care Department in New Mexico. The scholarship program aims to help early childhood educators take relevant courses to get their professional certificates, and degrees affordably, or free in this case.

The scholarship covers a year’s worth of tuition, including costs of textbooks with the chance of renewal every year. Provided that the students keep on reapplying each semester with a valid eligibility status.

Scholarship Coverage or Benefits

Here is a list of benefits you can get from the ECECD scholarship of New Mexico as a beneficiary;

  • one-year full tuition-free for those pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree (renewable as long you remain eligible)
  • 100% payment for all required textbooks for your approved courses
  • reimbursement of 100% of the testing cost (PRAXIS)
  • 80% free tuition and fees paid for candidates pursuing Master’s or Doctorates Degree
  • 50% scholarship on all approved textbooks for Master’s and Doctorate Degree
  • $1500 one-time incentive for anyone with bilingual qualifications

Eligibility and Requirements for ECECD Scholarships

To qualify for the scholarship as an interested candidate, you must meet the following laid down requirements for the Program:

  • you must be at least 18 years old
  • you must speak English, Spanish, or both
  • you must be an early childhood educator
  • you must live in New Mexico, United States
  • you must work in a New Mexico licensed or registered childcare setting
  • you must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • you must pass the PRAXIS test score required mark
  • you must have enrolled in a qualifying higher institution in New Mexico (see below)
  • you must have at least a single qualification related to Early Childhood Education
  • must work at least 20 hours a week in any Early Childhood Program that is qualifying for ECECD scholarships
  • after getting the award, you must keep your eligibility until the end of the award or beyond if you want to continue as a beneficiary
  • must agree to continue working for the Early Childhood Program throughout the duration of the scholarship, plus one additional year
  • must take at least 6 credit hours of the program per contract year

Required Documents for the Scholarship

The required documents are grouped into three parts; employment and scholarship verification, and textbook reimbursement. Here are the documents you need to submit to make a scholarship application valid:

  • a copy of your most recent paystub
  • Copy of your most current degree plan in an approved area
  • Copy of your schedule for the current semester
  • Copy of your Student ID card/number
  • Copy of your itemized receipt which includes your full name, student ID number, and course information uploaded to your unique link
  • CNM W9 form

Not every institution of higher education in New Mexico is eligible for the scholarship. Thus, applying through a non-qualifying institution will cause an automatic forfeit of the ECECD scholarship.
